  • Ghau is a small prayer box worn as a pendant by Buddhists as portable shrines where prayers and sacred relics are kept and used during their travel to hold their holy deity inside. Now, Prayer Box pendants are often used as jewelry or personal adornment. The Ghau opens to a concealed inner space and is traditionally used by Tibetan Buddhists to hold a picture of their favorite deity or Lama, a folded-up scroll of sacred mantras, special herbs, or sacred relics.
  • These are Buddha Eyes (also known as Wisdom Eyes) and the lookout in the four directions to symbolize the omniscience (all-seeing). Between the Buddha’s eyes, where the nose would be, is a curly symbol that looks like a question mark. This is the Nepali character for number 1, which symbolizes the unity of all things and the one way to reach enlightenment—through the Buddha’s teachings. Above this is a third eye, symbolizing the all-seeing wisdom of the Buddha.
